Attending a national conference in Atlanta with Welcome, Duncan injures his leg while running. Surgeons manage to save the leg, but the open wound is the perfect breeding ground for a deadly microbial invader committed to eating him alive from the inside out. The germ is resistant to any known antibiotic-- and the government scientist tasked with finding a cure has been kidnapped. A shadowy group known as One Hundred Neighbors has infiltrated our society, using our health institutions as hostages... and will stop at nothing to further their agenda.

like most medical thrillers, and this one did not disappoint. Very relevant, I thought, in terms of the Ebola scare going on now, worldwide. A little unbelievable, in terms of curing the Doomsday germ, but hopeful. Would recommend, as a nurse.

"Just imagine the pandemonium that would result if domestic terrorists got involved in deadly germ warfare. That's just what happens in Resistant, when a right-wing extremist group accidentally releases flesh-eating bacteria completely resistant to any known treatments. While the terrorists kidnap a specialist to find a cure (they'd wanted to infect only specific victims), the FBI teams up with Dr. Lou Welcome, in his 3rd series appearance, to beat them to it. Fast-paced and compelling, this is most likely the last book by author Michael Palmer, who died in 2013." Thrillers and Suspense October 2014 newsletter

Scary stuff. Reminds me of what is happening in today's political arena in regard to Medicare, Social Security and other human service programs as regards to the One Hundred Neighbors.
