Contains Spoilers! Disappointingly stupid people fight reluctant invaders. I read McIntosh's book Soft Apocalypse and liked that better. Maybe it was a meant as a warning to be careful with technology, but the creators of the Defenders seem remarkably short sighted. Let's make giant warriors with one instinct and interest and no way to shut them off. There had to be at least one sci-fi geek that saw Blade Runner and said maybe we should put something in to turn them off after a few years. I am willing to believe we could engineer something like the Defenders, but if they were that smart they would have put an off switch gene or something in there to kill them off. The star fish aliens seemed pretty reasonable. I think listening to all human thoughts would have drove them insane. They must have had an off switch for that.
