Mr. Mercedes
"In a mega-stakes, high-suspense race against time, three of the most unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King has ever created try to stop a lone killer from blowing up thousands. In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes. In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the "perk" and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy. Brady Hartfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again. Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose, because Brady's next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands. Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable"--

My first Stephen King book. About 50 pages too long but I enjoyed it. Not as amazing as some fanboys seem to think but still worth a read.

Picking up a Stephen King book Is like coming home. I fall right into the familiarity of his writing style and immerse myself into the story. Mr. Mercedes is just a wonderful detective story with surprised around every corner.

Stephen King is back on form, after some of the misfires of the last 15 years. Dark and suspenseful with those gruesome little twists that you expect from this author.

great Steven King book, Mr. Merecedes. A little long. But highly recommended. Serial killer. And, the race to stop him before he starts killing again. Read this novel.

Once I strapped my seat belt, Stephen King took me for quite a ride. Some say this is not his typical horror story, but I disagree. King as a unique way of showing us horror in many different ways. Mr. Mercedes was just another vehicle (pun intended) for him to use and I completely enjoyed my ride.

I rather liked this, but to me, it did not feel like a Stephen King novel. It felt like something by Thomas Harris, or another crime writer.

I would give it a 6 out of 10. It is very readable, but it seems to be lacking in that... Stephen Kingness, I suppose.

Wow, what a ride. Psychological thriller, love story and mystery with a range of human emotions. For me, it ranks with Bag of Bones, It, and Joyland.

The old Stephen King is back, nothing supernatural, just a great, intriguing and believable story. Definitely a page-turner, and compelling characters. One of his best.

This was my first King novel and I really enjoyed it. The plot was suspenseful and the book was hard to put down. Some of the details were quite disturbing and made me feel somewhat ill (as intended, I suppose), but was necessary for character development. Will have to check out more titles from this author.

Bill Hodges is a memorable character in this novel: overweight but smart and likeable, he refuses to give up on an unsolved case involving a mass murderer. But it's Holly who really steals the show at the end: reclusive but courageous and computer saavy, it is she who incapacitates the killer.
