"In New York City in 1969, 19-year-old art student Noriko fell in love with 41-year-old avant-garde artist Ushio Shinohara and put her career on hold to marry and support this rising star of the Manhattan art world... Now 80 and still struggling, Ushio is consumed with reinforcing his legacy via his 'boxing' paintings, while Noriko is now finding her own creative voice through a series of drawings entitled 'Cutie And Bullie' that depict their chaotic relationship and her desire to escape her husband's shadow and be respected as an artist in her own right"--Container.

The director-photographer, and this is his first film, won "Best Director" award at the Sundance Film Festival. This film is a beautiful and touching look at a long lasting marriage between two artists who are very different from one another. It's about creativity and the struggles that come with staying true to ones calling. The two artists are very comfortable expressing themselves in front of the camera. It's a very honest look at life and how life can be expressed through ones art. I loved this film, it brought tears to my eyes and made me laugh out loud.

VERY BORING, DULL. SEE NO ARTISTIC VALUE TO BULLIE PONDING A LARGE CANVAS WITH PAINT ON BOXING GLOVES. SOME OF CUTIE'S ART GOOD. MY LIBRARY WASTED TAXPAYERS MONEY WITH THIS ONE. WATCHED THE ENTIRE DVD HOPING IT WOULD IMPROVE,

it's interesting how real life brought out Cutie's metal--another talented capable
woman who almost sacrificed her life for an alcoholic

Beautiful! Be sure and watch the Bonus material. The doc. is only 82 min. long. You get to ride along the "ART" making process with Noriko&Ushio, backdropped with past personal video recordings. Hopefully their son starts to sell some work, he needs it.
