Excellent book and excellent readers! Rich descriptions of complex characters, made even stronger by the fact that they are soundly based on real people and real situations. The narrative at the end by the author describing how she came to write the book and how closely it was based on historical fact was equally compelling. The focus was on the power of the characters, who were living in a very difficult time, but not on the horror of the time, so it was inspiring, rather than nightmarish. It makes you appreciate the inspiration and incredible bravery of these pioneers that have given us our freedoms today.

Well written, well read. The DVD "The Abolitionists" mentions many of the Abolitionists in this book.

This was a wonderful listen. The readers were excellent. I often found myself lingering in the kitchen longer to "finish up" just so I could hear some more. If you listened to Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker and liked it this feels like a pre-story. Enjoy!

Excellent work. I enjoyed it very much. Reminds somewhat of Gone with the Wind. I like stories of strong women and Sarah was certainly that. Used CD as waiting list was shorter. Agree with comment above. Reader excellent.

This is a well written book. I had it on CD. The readers did an excellent job. It was a joy to listen to them even though the topic of slavery is not joyful.
