Mikkelson is outstanding, in his quiet choices portraying a gentle man. I found the examination of the effects of the accusation on the strong, well-established friendships among the men to be fascinating - we don't often see this approach applied to male characters in film (well, North American film, anyway). You can really see how torn the best friend, who is also the father of the child making the initial accusation, is - he knows the character of his friend, but also believes certain things about the behaviour of his child, and he is absolutely tortured in trying to figure out which of these people he loves, are lying. I think the other reviewers who criticize the actions of the school's principal and the local ?psychologist? she calls in, have let themselves be sidetracked - well-meaning people in these positions in real life do and can make mistakes, and the effects can be horrifying.

Excellent movie! I'm glad it was translated in French, although too bad they never thought of doing an English translation. I truly enjoyed this movie for it's content and amazing cast. Mads Mikkelsen was absolutely awesome!

An usual story about the wrongful conviction, by people in a small community, of a sexual crime he did not commit. Great acting by the lead actor, and the little girl who innocently started the whole fiasco. Danish/English with subtitles.

Terrific movie about how a man's life is ruined by allegations he molested his best friend's daughter. The acting is terrific. The events are set up well and the timing which each seemingly minor detail contributes largely to the horrible outcome is skillfully rendered. It's hard to watch it happening. You've head about many cases where children have been abused. You've also heard about cases where the charges have been untrue. The Hunt will move you as it shows the disastrous effects on the supposed victim, supposed perp and the town who is all too quick to judge the complex situation.

I don't understand why it was not translated in English. We only have English subtiles very hard to watch because I'm so busy reading :(

You must see this movie! Basically it's about the hysteria that ensues after an allegation of child sexual abuse. It's suspenseful and mind blowing. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Mads Mikkelsen, as always, is amazing. His performance is extremely moving.

Mads Mikkelsen won the Cannes award for best actor in “The Hunt” as he plays a man despised by his town for something he did not do. He shows tremendous range as he transitions from the most beloved town character to despised and then to become the most angry. Cases like this create town hysteria and often times we learn many years later that all of the accusations have been false.

The Hunt, as it's listed on the DVD cover or Jagten which is the Danish title, won Best Actor at this year's Cannes Film Festival for Mads Mikkelson. It's about a man who has lost his job as a teacher when the local school closed and is now working in a local daycare center. He is falsely accused of exposing himself to one of the children and the friendly townspeople quickly become a mob of hatred and menace in their unquestioning reaction to the accusation. It's difficult to describe the plot which centers on a man accused of a crime which is all too often a reality for small children and their parents. The parents seem too quick to accuse an innocent man on the one hand, but their genuine fear and protectiveness is understandable on the other. The narrative poses a dilemma which is examined from both viewpoints and both viewpoints are understandable. My problem with this film was the very leading questions put to the little girl involved which effectively set her up for the lie which she told and which she had no understanding of its full implication. Mickkelsen's portrayal of an innocent man's confusion and struggle with undeserved guilt and his dismay at the townspeople's growing and unquestioning ostracism of him shows his versatility as an actor. This is one of the best films I've seen this year. If you do watch it, be sure to watch the alternate ending in the Menu Extras. I was hard put to decide which ending I preferred.

Excellent movie in every way....the script, the acting. As usual, Mads Mikkelsen gives an incredible performance.
