Not as good as the movie. The author doesnt describe verry well, so its kinda hard 2 understand what alex is doing. Its my favorite spy movie, but one of the worst books ive read. I like its plot a lot, but i expected more after seeing the awesome movie.

This rather short spy novel has its ups and downs. I did not enjoy it as much as I hoped I would, but it had some great moments. Those great moments, however, were much too rare. The novel in its entirety had some clichés, common plot holes, and lack of creativity, but it was not altogether a terrible read. It delivered action sequences and a protagonist readers would root for. Fourteen-year-old Alex Rider knows how to defend himself, speaks a few languages, and knows about every useful topic mentioned in this novel. But to my relief, the author doesn’t make him seem invincible. Alex uses his sharp wits and skills instead of brute force to get his way through every situation. And sometimes his plan doesn’t go as originally intended. The moments where Alex seemed most vulnerable were in my opinion the best. He sounded much more human and relatable than when he got through a thick wall of security and managed to escape without a scratch. At an early point in the novel Alex was going through a dangerous situation that he put himself in for the sake of his curiosity, and I thought he was going to be one of those entirely reckless and over-confident protagonists. Fortunately, he wasn’t. As a matter of fact, the author deliberately made Alex the most terrible spy I’ve ever read about for a reason. Everyone knows that you can’t become a spy in a few weeks and the even Alex Rider, despite his cockiness, was aware of it. So to some degree I liked the novel, but as I mentioned before, it seemed too short. The amount of detail was minimal, but that was probably because the author was targeting a younger audience. So overall, I’ll have to say that I won’t recommend this to my friends.

I thought that it was a bad book, predictable, flat characters. But I guess a lot of people like it.
