Overall, I thought that this was a good book. However, there are a few little things that make it less good.
1. The wargals seem suspiciously like the urgals from eragon. (Published two years earlier than this book)
2. Will is supposed to be 15, but he acts like he's 12-13
3. Morgorath is a very cliche villan who seems flat and has no depth of character.
Other than that, this is a good book. Probably a B+

Will lives in the kingdom of Araluen. He is a ward of the castle, and all he knows about his parents is that his mother died in childbirth and his father died a hero.
When he is 15, he and the other 4 castle wards the same age as him must chose one of the crafts to go into, or become a farmer. Will wants to go into battleschool and become a knight, like his father, but he is to small. He is accepted by the Ranger corps, though. The Rangers are mysterious scouts and spies, who can almost completely dissapear. The book was very good, and I read it in two days, because I coulden't put it down. The only things I didn't like were that it seemed too short, (but there are 11 sequils) and that I would have liked to see more of the Ranger's gathering, since we dont really get to see what most of the rangers are like, since the two actual rangers that have roles are very different people. I recomend this book to anyone that likes Fantasy novels.

Coarse Language: There's a couple of uses of the D-word here and there but it's mild compared to some books out there.

p. 173: Once you best a man, don’t gloat. Be generous and find something in his actions to praise. He won’t enjoy being bested, but he’ll make a good face of it. Show him you appreciate it. Praise can win you a friend. Gloating will only ever make enemies.
